Fox K9 Training Buzz

A BIT ABOUT FOX K9 TRAINING

Hi, I'm Jess; the founder of Fox K9 Training!

My entire dog training journey - and now this company and its name - has been inspired by my dog Fox. From her first walk it was clear that Fox had significant behavioural issues, and the journey to resolving those issues led me to become the trainer I am today. My passion for dog training grew steadily as I learned how to work with her instead of against her until her reactivity was a thing of the past.

In 2022 I began to shadow local trainers, volunteer at rescues and foster dogs to further my handling experience. After embarking on a mentorship in 2023 I'm so excited to now be able to help other owners on their own journey.

Fox is now 3 years old and is joined by Buzz, my working line Labrador, and between them they help me to make a difference to the lives of dogs and their owners.

Whatever you are working through with your dog, know that I have been through it too and you don't have to do it alone. I can't wait to show you how to unlock your dogs motivation, build your relationship and learn to communicate with them; setting you on the path to relaxed, enjoyable walks together!

  • Where are you based?
I am based in Southampton, Hampshire covering the main city and surrounding areas. I train in real world scenarios so sessions will be held in local green spaces or environments that support the training required.
  • Where do your sessions take place?
This depends on the dog. I train in the real world because that is where you will be walking and training your dog day to day. If you are working through behavioural problems we will start somewhere quiet so that we can ensure sound handling foundations are in place before progressing to more challenging environments. If you have a specific goal or place you would like to be able to take your dog we can work towards this over a course of sessions.
  • What do I need to do to prepare for my lesson?
Fox K9 Training is a judgement free zone - your initial session will be a chance for me to get to know you and your dog, we will talk through the issues you are having and what you want to achieve so please do not worry about your dogs current behaviour or training standard. I train using your dogs daily food so it's helpful to bring this to the lesson in a pouch along with their collar, lead and a longline or flexi-lead. If you are unsure about anything before your session please get in touch and I can put your mind at ease!
  • Does my dog need to be a certain age to begin training?
No! It is never too late to start training your dog. If you have a puppy we can start foundations straight away to ensure they mature in to a well rounded dog. If you have an older dog of any age, we can discuss what you would like to achieve and put a plan in place to get you there.
  • Are your sessions group sessions or 1-2-1s?
I currently offer 1-2-1 sessions where I can fully focus on you and your dog. 1-2-1 sessions are imperative for behaviour modification cases where you will learn how to handle your dog and eventually work around my stooge dogs if this is something that will benefit your dogs training. I will be running group classes towards the end of 2024 for regular clients, which you will be invited to attend once your dogs training is at a suitable standard for a group environment.
  • How long is a session?
1-2-1 sessions are 1 hour long, however it may be possible to book a double session if you are travelling from a distance or if your dog requires intensive training.
  • How often do you recommend sessions take place?
This all depends on the issues you are working through with your dog. For basic training such as loose lead and recall I would recommend booking a session every 2 weeks to once a month to ensure we can progress the training until you are at a point you are happy with your dogs behaviour. For more complex training and behaviour modification I recommend booking a session once a week to every 2 weeks as the training may need tweaking regularly to ensure progress is made.
